YOHIMBINE

Yohimbine is a major carboline alkaloid in the bark of Pausinystalia species (Rubiaceae).

It is also found in Pseudocinchonaafricana (Corynanthepachyceras; Rubiaceae), and Rauwolfia canescens (Apocynaceae).

Yohimbine is a α2-adrenoceptor antagonist that has been used in the treatment of erectile dysfunction.

At high doses its most common effects are increased blood pressure, slight anxiety, and increased frequency of micturition (Action of urination).

It has been used as an aphrodisiac and hallucinogen and in herbal supplements.
